Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Licensing observed there was no sign with the manager’s name in the School Age classroom.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the manager’s name is displayed in a prominent place in each classroom.

LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: Licensing observed that 2 staff’s licenses were not updated/posted on the wall. The assistant manager discussed that they are in the process of updating the wall.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all staff’s certificates are updated and displayed with the other certificates.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19050 - CCLR s.56(1)(f) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation: Licensing observed that the JK107 classroom has not used their communication log book since May 2023. The assistant manager will remind staff to keep a log of these minor incidents.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a log is kept for minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children that do not require medical attention and are not reportable incidents in Schedule H.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 12 Children's files; 12 children were missing their enrolment date. There is a spot in the registration forms but none of them were filled in.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that for each child, there is a record showing the child's date of enrolment in the community care facility. Please ensure that there is a system in place to review children's files.

Comments

On the inspection date of January 16, 2024, there were 34 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was completed off site and emailed to the facility the next day.
