Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: it was noted that the Manager's name is not visibly posted within the community care facility
Corrective Action(s): Manager will ensure their name is visibly posted within the community care facility

LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: ECE credentials are not posted within the community care facility
Corrective Action(s): Manager will ensure all ECE credentials are posted visibly within the community care facility

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During walk through of the indoor area of the facility, it was noted that a door that leads to the upper level of the home, and secondary exit was unlocked and easily accessible to children in care
Corrective Action(s): Manager will ensure this door remains locked at all times children are in care

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Manager has not verified ECE credentials
Corrective Action(s): Manager will validate ECE credentials, and keep the documentation on file at all times

Comments

At the inspection dated February 8, 2024 there were 6 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
