Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All designated areas of the facility from where the childcare operates were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice.

Observed Violations
No violations were found during the inspection.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 13 ,2019 there were 18 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection no contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO are included in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following recommendations were provided:
Minor Incident Log
A log book is maintained of minor incidents. It is recommended where it indicates that parent will be notified at pick up that this is confirmed to provide evidence of notification. For example, when notified, staff could update the entry to confirm notification. Licensing reviewed the Wind and Tide policy on "Accidents, Log Books & Incident Reports" where it indicates that "any discussions with parent(s)/guardian's regarding the entry are recorded in the Log Book and the parent/guardian will be asked to initial the Log Book entry".
Emergency Plan and Procedures
It is recommended that an out of province contact number be obtained and provided to parents as opposed to local area number. Discussed that in an event, such as an earthquake, phone lines in local areas may not be operational and chances to get through to a working phone line may be better if attempting to contact a number out of province.
Licensing discussed recent resources/bulletins to confirm that they were received:
 Temporary Placements
Active Play
Live 5210
BC Maintenance Grant Information
 Active Supervision
 Lead in the Water
 Reportable Incident Bulletin
At this time it is not clear as to whether this program has received the updates/bulletins. Licensing to email head office for distribution to Evans Elementary Wind and Tide if ot already done. It is recommended that copies be printed off for staff to access at this facility.
Visit the CCFL website at www.fraserhealth.ca/childcare for additional resources, and links to the Legislation (CCALA and CCLR).
