Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed:
-A rusty scooter was located both inside and outside the fence. Rust can present a potential health hazard.
-A bottle of concentrated bleach was located under the sink. The door to the cupboard containing the bleach had a child safety lock but this was easy to open
-Hand sanitizer was within easy reach.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing reviewed the tag attached to the fire extinguisher. The fire extinguisher was due for servicing on February 11, 2022.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced prior to the expiry date to ensure you are prepared in an emergency.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14360 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: A child's record was reviewed. In the record it stated the child had serious allergies and required emergency medication in the event of an exposure. In discussion with the Manager she was not aware of this. The Manager will follow up with the child's family.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the children's records are reviewed and if necessary, emergency medication and care plans are put into place to protect the safety of the children in care.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 10, 2022 there were 5 children and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by June 24, 2022 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current communicable disease prevention protocols that are in place
-An ointment with a drug identification number (DIN) was observed in the outdoor emergency bag. Items with a DIN require a signed medical authorization form prior to application.
-Please ensure first aid kits contain all of the necessary supplies including an ice pack.

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Manager at the inspection. A copy of these documents were sent to the Director. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me.
