Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: During the inspection Licensing observed that one of the staff certificates was not posted. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BKMNHE
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff certificates are posted in a prominent place.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed the following:
-laminate flooring was lifting in some sections in the classroom. This could cause a potential tripping hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BYQT7J
-a square table had a chip in it and the wood was exposed. This could be difficult to clean
-several chips in the paint where drywall was exposed in the 3-5 classroom.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Rusty chair legs were observed. These chairs were located in the playground sandbox. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CB2RGR. Rust can present a potential health hazard
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: The staff qualifications list was reviewed at the facility. One staff criminal record check was not listed on the staff qualifications list. A file for the staff was not located at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the staff qualifications list is updated to reflect the CRC.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 6, 2023 there were 25 children, 7 staff, 1 student and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by January 20, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure. Forms and the bulletin were given
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water

The following was recommended:
-Obtain a covered garbage for the outdoor play area for children 30 months to school age
-More food is required in the emergency kit for children 0-36 months.
