Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During the inspection the outdoor play area was observed. Paint was peeling from three of the fences that line the outdoor play area perimeter.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the outdoor play area is in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: Four out of eight children's files were reviewed. Two children's files were missing a date of enrolment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: The attendance was reviewed for the month of July. Five arrival and departure times were not recorded. This was corrected during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the attendance is complete to ensure the health and safety of children in care during an emergency.

Comments

At the inspection dated July 29, 2019 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please provide a written response to licensing by August 12 identifying how you have corrected the above noted contraventions. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· More food and water needs to be added to the emergency evacuation kit. Licensing recommends having enough food and water for a period of 72 hours
· Sun safety
