Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following requires addressing to ensure a healthy and safe environment:
-Dome climber must be placed on a resilient surface, and is not geared for children under the age of 3 years
-Animal feces present in the area designated for children's outdoor play
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is present for children in care

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Hot water tested today, reading 50.9 degrees Celsius; this is a repeat contravention
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure hot water does not reach a temperature above 49 degrees Celsius

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Fire extingushers do not have tag's or recept to show date of servicing or of purchase; this is repeat contravention
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all extingushers are serviced annually

Comments

At the inspection dated May 31, 2023 there were 4 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
