Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-A mat at the door of one classroom was curled providing a potential tripping hazard.
-In one classroom there were plastic bags stored on the bathroom counter, accessible to children in care.
-Two large bags with sand were stored in the Under 36 months play area.
Manager said these will be removed by the licensee.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: One staff record was unavailable at the time of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep current records of each employee, as required under section 19 (1)

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 12 children's files, one file did not contain the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child, a record showing the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 12 children's files, one file did not contain consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain parent consent to call a medical practitioner if the parent cannot be immediately reached.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 18 children, 5 staff and the manager on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
During inspection licensing discussed storage of children's drink cups to have lids for prevention of transmission of disease.
Reviewed the practice of labelling containers with cleaning solutions.
One classroom was not in use at the time of inspection.
