Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP). All areas were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Plastic bags were observed in the IT classroom drawers accessible to children
Nap room cables for the monitor and music player were loose where children have access during nap time. At times staff are not providing supervision in the nap room.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed two walls with damage near where children rest at naptime.
Corrective Action(s): Staff placed posters over the areas during the inspection.

STAFFING: 12260 - CCLR s.29(c) - To qualify for employment in a community care facility as a responsible adult, a person must (c) have completed a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 8 employee records, of those 1 employee had not completed more than 14 hours of training in the areas of child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
Corrective Action(s): The manager contacted the employee and found that the staff person is registered for further education, and will have 20 hours of education on or before March 19th, 2024.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 39 children, 11 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool was completed and a copy was provided the facility along with this report.
