Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection Licensing observed the following in the outdoor playground:
-a rusty broom handle
-multiple rusty tips on plant stakes.

Rust could cause a potential health hazard. Rust in the outdoor play area is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BC6VP3. In discussion with the staff member she stated the objects would be removed immediately.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 19, 2022 there were 22 children, and 12 staff were present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Please correct the above noted contravention by February 3, 2022. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

-The reportable incident reporting procedure and forms.
-The current COVID-19 protocols that are in place

The inspection findings were reviewed with a staff member at the inspection as the Manager was absent. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the inspection report and the risk assessment were completed at the Burnaby FHA office. The report was written in .5 hour and this is not included in the report. A copy of these documents were sent to the Manager. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me.
