Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the storage of a folding chair, an office chair, and some plantars in the play area. Licensee said she was closed for some time and had not yet removed them from the space. This was completed during the inspection.
-One ride on toy in the outdoor area was cracked. Licensee removed this from the space during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to create a system for regularly checking outdoor toys and equipment for repair or replacement in addition to the regular daily checks. The licensee said she will be including checking toys and equipment for hazards as part of her daily, monthly, and yearly outdoor checks.

Summary of Inspection
During today’s inspection, there were 3 children, and the licensee present.

At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified, and was addressed at the time of the inspection therefore not further action in response to this inspection.

The following was discussed:
-Licensing reviewed the Criminal Record Check renewal requirement for those ordinarily present in facility who require it. Licensee will complete the CRC for three persons.
-Validation for Early Childhood Education Certification when it is renewed.
-Reportable Incidents
-Emergency persons, or a substitute staff when required for the licensee, and what items are required on file.
