Introduction

An unscheduled follow up inspection to the Routine Inspection # SWAR-B2MMBX dated April 25th 2018 was conducted. Areas of non-compliance identified at the Routine Inspection were reviewed for compliance. A follow up was completed on July 13th 2018 where some of the contraventions were still outstanding.

Licensee/Manager had responded to the coded items in writing.

The following contraventions have been addressed:
11010 - Counter tops are less cluttered than previously and no hazardous items are accessible.
12430 - Licensee has now created a staff file for herself. A criminal record check clearance has been obtained for the Licensee. A copy needs to be mailed to the Licensee

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SWAR-AY6NFD have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: On arrival at inspection, Licensing observed that another individual over 12 years of age was present in the facility. in discussion with the licensee, this person will be ordinarily present until December 2018. Due to this, this individual requires a criminal record check. Discussed the process for volunteer status.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure any individual over 12 years of age that is ordinarily present and interacting with the children has a current cleared criminal record check on file. Please ensure that this individual is not with the children until in place.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13010 - CCLR s.22(1)(a) - A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher still does not have a receipt for date of purchase to indicate when it is due for service. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced annually by the date below.

Comments

On site today was the Licensee, 3 children in care and an individual over 12 years for a portion of the inspection time.

Note: Licensee ECE certificate is due to expire in November 2018. Please ensure you apply for your renewal immediately due to backlog of applications at the ECE Registry. If renewal is not obtained prior to expiry, a staff plan exemption may be considered.
