Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

A JIBC student was also in attendance for training purposes.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: In discussion with the Manager, Licensing observed that although the emergency drill was practiced as an eathquake drill, there was no written record. Licensing discussed the intent of the annual evacation drill to be that of evacuation to the secondary location as stated in the faciity policies, in case of emergency at the facility and for the information to be recorded in the same manner as the fire drills, which Licensing acknowledges were complete.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the evacuation drill is documented when completed.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 16 children and 3 staff present. The facility was operating on reduced hours through the Summer.
Licensing reviewed the facility’s COVID-19 prevention strategies.

At this inspection, the above noted contravention/s were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
- Bathroom supervision plan when the school is in operation
- Safe food storage for packed lunches particularly during the warmer months
- Outdoor play areas utilized
- Emergency evacuation plan requirements
- Ensuring that a record is made of when staff character references are contacted, completing the screening process.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)
