Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Files and drill sanding bands used on artificial nails are non-critical (lower risk) items however since they are absorbent, they cannot be cleaned and disinfected so they are to be discarded after each client. Today, these are re-used and are stored in apron pocket.
Corrective Action(s): Discard absorbent items such as the nail files and sanding bands used for manicures. Store files in a clean container.

Comments

Services provided: Nails (manicure, pedicure, foot bath, acrylic nails/gel nail color, foot massage); Esthetics (waxing); and Other - (eyelash extensions).
Nails:
- Critical items - Credo/pedicure razor blade - is single use and discarded into a sharps container. Sharps container available under sink.
- Semi critical items (cuticle nippers, metal cuticle pushers, nail cutters, metal files, metal callus rasp, pedicure blade holder, drill bits if not covered in disposable sandpaper) - using high level disinfectant - Exp Oct 2023 - good. Instructions posted for staff ***DRY item before immersing in disinfectant. Amend written instructions and train staff.
- Foot bath is covered with disposable single use plastic liner - good. Acrylic foot bath is cleaned and disinfected (after liner has been discarded in the garbage) using a chlorine disinfectant in labelled spray bottle - ok. Be careful when using any chemicals and do not breath in spray. ***Fully cover foot bath surfaces with disinfectant and leave wet for 10 minutes.
- Non critical items are disinfected with barbicide.
- Note: Surface disinfectants and wipes in large cupboard are not being used and have expired. Do not use expired chemicals.
- Disposable items - absorbent files for pedicures, toe separators, buffers discarded after use.
- ***Drill bit sanding bands (covers) and absorbent files used on artificial nails - See above.
- Nail services area has a hand sink with hot/cold water, liquid soap and single use hand towels.
- Latex disposable gloves used. Note: if any customers or staff have latex allergies - provide non-latex disposable gloves.
*** Train staff on proper and safe use of all chemicals.
Esthetics (Waxing):
- Using room #2 for waxing. Hand sink provided with hot/cold water, liquid soap, and single use paper hand drying towels.
- Non critical disposable wooden spatulas and waxing strips discarded after use.
- Wax appears clean.
- Non critical items (tweezers for hair removal) using low level disinfectant. Store in a clean container.
- Semi critical items (tweezers if used for ingrown hair) - use a high level disinfectant such as your CS20.
Eyelash Extensions:
- Using room #1 only for this service. New business licence for this operator. This service to be covered under separate approval/inspection. Not inspected at this time.
General:
- Treatment room 1 - room rental.
- Treatment room 2 - waxing only.
- Hand washing sinks in nail services area and both treatment rooms.
- Laundry - washing machine on site. For drying - use hot dry cycle on machine.
- Washroom for customers and staff - hand washing sink has hot/cold water, liquid soap, and single use hand towels - good.
Corrective actions reviewed with Manager on site.
Copy of report to be emailed to owner/manager at spa email address.
