Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A spray bottle of cleaning solution was observed within the children's washroom on the counter.
Corrective Action(s): The facility manager removed the cleaning solution and secured it to an area inaccessible to children. Please ensure children do not have access to objects or substances which may be harmful to their health or safety.

Comments

Reviewed children's files which were complete and well organized, discussed medication consents and when a care plan or additional information may be required to guide staff in administration of medication. The manager provided a tour of the facility , it was noted that the preschool program was closed sue to summer however the space was inspected.
At the inspection dated July 6, 2021 there were 21 children in the care of 10 staff. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The contravention was addressed during the inspection however please provide a written response outlining your system to ensure safe storage of hazardous items. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The report was completed off site therefore a signature was not obtained.
