Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). A COVID-19 Prescreening was completed with the Manager prior to the inspection.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: At the time of this inspection, a diapering cart was blocking one of the designated emergency exits.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure emergency exits are kept free of items at all times children are in care.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated September 22, 2020, there was 7 children and 1 staff present. Staff ECE qualifications and First Aid certification is current and posted. At this inspection the following contravention(s) were identified or no contraventions were identified. Action required by the Licensee is indicated in this report. As part of the Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A student from the Justice Institute on a practicum was also present for this inspection.
The following resources\recommendations are provided:
• COVID-19 Infection Control Assessment Checklist was completed. A copy of the checklist is provided by PDF email.
• Resource Package for ChildCare Facilities- COVID-19 Prevention and posters for handwashing was provided in July 2020.
Systems are in place to support and enhance health and hygiene practices. Parents have been provided with copies of Little Peeps Learning Centre COVID-19 policies and procedures.
A reminder to ensure the plug cover for the one plug outlet in the nap room area is replaced after use. Licensee advised that she had put the sound device on in the nap room and had forgot to replace the plug cover after use. All other plug covers were in place where needed.
A review of one children’s record noted that the alternate pickup information on the registration was blank. Licensee advised that only this child’s parent(s) pickup and will indicate this on the registration form. Ensure all areas are complete on the children's registrations to indicate the status of the information that is being requested on the registration form.
The Licensee advised that required documentation for a sub file will be updated prior to utilizing a sub. At the time of this inspection, the services of a sub has not been utilized.

The report findings were reviewed at the time of this inspection. A copy of the inspection report and facility risk assessment were emailed (PDF) to the facility on Sept. 22/20.
