Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing

Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

At the time of this inspection the below noted contraventions were identified.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: An annual emergency drill was due in October 2019 and was not completed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure an annual emergency drill is practiced as per requirements. A checklist is in use to monitor the expiry dates of the emergency supplies. Recommendation made to also add more food supplies.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: Photos are attached to the emergency consent cards, all emergency consent cards were reviewed, and photos are missing for 7 children.
Corrective Action(s): Manager made aware that if photos are not available then a digital image may also be kept to complete the records. Consent for photographs are on file for children.
Date to be Corrected: As discussed, please ensure all records are complete as per requirements.

Summary of Inspection:
At the time of this inspection, the Manager and 1 staff were on site with 7 children in care.

Action required by the Licensee includes providing a written response by December 2,2019.
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.

The following education /discussions took place:
Active Supervision- practices
Reportable Incident Reporting process
Screen use reviewed, occasional movie watching occurs on a Pro-D day
