Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed that the sleeping mats which had bedsheets were stacked together and were touching in three classrooms. This item was contravened on routine inspection report number MZIN-CBPMJH on Feb. 15, 2022.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the sleeping mats with the bedsheets are stored in a way that they are not touching each other.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The following were observed:
- In one bathroom, the toilet seat wrap has ripped exposing the foam, which is difficult to clean. This was corrected during inspection.
- In the outdoor playground, the tarp has ripped which is within reach of children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the facility equipment is clean and in good repair.

Comments

At the inspection dated Mar. 07, 2023 there were 60 children, 17 staff and 1 practicum student present.The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Storing equipment outdoors
