Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). In response to the current Covid 19 pandemic this inspection focused on the following areas:
-Physical Facility
-Health and Hygiene
-Records and Reporting

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed inside the classroom:

-a wooden transfer strip between the bathroom and the hallway was loose, splintering and showing signs of wear
-in two areas, the drywall and the metal corner angle framing trim was exposed
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair

Comments

At the inspection dated May 8, 2020 there were 2 children, and the staff and the Manager were present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Please ensure that the above noted contravention is corrected. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Director.

The following was reviewed/discussed with the Manager:

· The outdoor play area is not in use as it is a public space. Use of public spaces has been restricted during the Covid-19 pandemic. To fulfill the requirement of
60 minutes of outdoor play, the facility is taking the children on walks in the neighbourhood each day.
· Information sent out to the Director regarding the following: sanitization/disinfection, social distancing, hand washing and health and wellness policy.
· The coronavirus COVID-19 public health guidance for child care settings

The following recommendations were made:

· Having a diaper change mat at the facility in the event that a child has diapers and must be changed
· Installing a lock on the door to the staff area

The following resource was given to the Manager:

· Resource Package for Child Care facilities COVID-19 prevention

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Manager at the inspection. The inspection report and the risk assessment were completed at the Burnaby Health Protection office. The report was written in .5 hours and this is included in the report. A copy of these documents were sent to the Director
