Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: The hot water in the bathroom where children wash hands measured at 57.4 degrees Celsius
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure hot water is not heated to more than 49 degrees Celsius.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of 6 children's files observed 1 did not have an emergency contact.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 01, 2024 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. This inspection and the risk assessment were written on site and reviewed with the Manager, a copy was provided via email.


The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Eliminating the practice of having children sit in high chairs during circle.
- Posting of required documents.
- Updating attendance to include the year,
- Pro-actively maintaining the log book.
- Conducting and documenting fire and emergency drills.
- Digital photos of children are acceptable.
- Families may list a walk in clinic if a family doctor is not available.
- Certificate validation.
- Care plans reviews and updates.
- Ensure proper hand washing and sanitizing at all times.
