Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- outdoor play space for infant toddler program includes small rubber pieces, small enough to present a choking hazard, which are used as a resilient surface. The manager confirmed that children in this program put the rubber pieces in their mouths.
- children's unwashed blankets stored in a pile which is not sanitary
- an unsecured cord for a sound device in a naproom which poses a risk of entanglement
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe enviornment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- visibly soiled areas on a wall and baseboards/flooring in an infant toddler room
- a gab in the flooring between two rooms in an infant toddler room were debris is collecting
- a small tear in a diaper change mat (the manager removed and replaced during the inspection)
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the community care facility is clean and in good repair.

Comments

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The following was discussed:
- emergency supplies
- emergency plan
- care plans
- emergency contacts
- food safe
- sun safety
The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
