Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSoP). There were 7 children and 3 staff at the facility during the inspection. All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Four staff files were reviewed and in three of the staff files there was no evidence of current criminal record checks in place. One of the staff files was without any evidence of a Criminal record check having been completed, and licensing was informed this staff no longer works here.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff who are regularly present at the facility have evidence of a valid criminal record check.

STAFFING: 12070 - CCLR s.19(1)(d) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (d) copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills.
Observation: Four staff files were reviewed during the inspection and in one of the files, there was no evidence of the certification of that staff person available. Certificates were no posted on the walls, with the other staff certificates.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff present and working at the facility have evidence of their appropriate credentials.

-Reasonable time frames in which to obtain recertifications
-Bleach water change and best practice, which facility is following

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

All parts of this report were discussed with the staff during the inspection. A written response from the licensee is required for the contraventions identified and is due no later than November 4, 2022, to show how you plan to come into compliance.
