Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care and services were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Review of 9 staff files noted 1 Criminal Record Check on file was not site specific and 1 Criminal Record Check was not obtained for a staff person on site. There is documentation of an application in the staff file and the Manager said the staff will not be working alone with children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain Criminal Record Checks prior to staff commencing work and ensure Criminal Record Checks are site specific.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 17, 2024 there were 32 children and 7 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. This inspection and the risk assessment were written on site and reviewed with the Manager, a copy was provided via email.


The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Reportable Incident online reporting.
- Care plan consultation.
- Criminal record checks.
