401 - Adequate handwashing stations not available for employees [s. 21(4)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Cold running water not available at one of the handwash stations available in kitchen. Manager had advised the cold water was purposely turned off as staff were washing hands with hot water only. Cold water was turned back on by staff at the time of the inspection but push pedal required a repair.
Corrective Action(s): As per section 21(4) of BC Food Premises Regulation, "every operator of food premises must supply and maintain handwashing stations adequate in number and location to ensure convenient access to all employees", where a "handwashing station" means "a hand basin provided with a) hot and cold running water, b) soap in a dispenser, and c) a method of hand drying that uses single service products".

Observation: Knee push pedal at the handwashing station mentioned above requires a repair.

Comments

Routine inspection conducted:

- Handwash stations adequately supplied with liquid soap, paper towels and hot/cold running water, except mentioned above.
- Coolers operating below 4'C; Freezers operating at/below -18'C.
- Time monitoring stamp system in place. Temperature monitoring system in place.
- 200ppm Quats available in buckets throughout. Automated dispenser at correct concentration.
- General food storage practice satisfactory throughout.
- Professional pest control company contracted for monthly visit. Traps in place.
NOTE: Ensure traps are placed correctly as shown at the time of the inspection.
- Washroom handsinks satisfactory.

General sanitation of the facility satisfactory but could be improved by cleaning hard to reach areas on a more regular basis (i.e. floors underneath large equipment/shelving units at the back).
