Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #JBES-B8HNV7 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During a walk through of the preschool classroom, it was noted that a number of items/boxes/craft supplies are stored above the children's cubbies. There is currently no intervention in order to prevent the items from falling during an emergency situation.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure these items are secured in a way that will slow down/prevent items from falling and causing injury to children in care.

Comments

At the inspection dated December 4, 2019 there were 10 children and 1 staff present.
One coded violation was noted during today's inspection; please provide Licensing with a written response by December 18, 2019 stating how the coded violation has been addressed.

During today's inspection, it was discovered that all staff files are contained at the school office, and were not accessible to Licensing for review. Licensing has made arrangements to return to the facility and conduct an audit of the staff files at a different date. Licensing was able to confirm that the Manager's ECE Certificate, First aid, and Criminal Records Check are valid.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Lead in the Water
