Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: One early childhood educator certificate was not posted
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a copy of the certificate is posted.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: one employee did not have a copy of a criminal record check. One employee had a criminal record check addressed to another facility. The Manager said she has applied for criminal record checks for both employees.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a criminal record check is obtained for each employee.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: In the Group Child Care (under 36 months) an early childhood educator assistant is working in place of an early childhood educator.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the ratio of employees to children is no less than permitted in schedule E.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated October 19, 2022 there were 28 children and 9 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Storage of medications
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
