Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: It was noted that the staff person present has an expired Criminal Record Check
Corrective Action(s): Apply for a new CRC for staff person immediately

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Review of Fire drill log, it was noted that no fire drills have been practised for January or Feburary of 2021.
Corrective Action(s): Fire drills must be practised and recorded monthly

Comments

At the inspection dated March 4, 2021 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please ensure fire drills are practised and recorded monthly, and provide evidence that an application for a CRC has been submitted for all staff persons.

The contents of this inspection were discussed on-site, however the completion of the Facility Inspection Report, and corresponding Risk Assessment Tool were completed off-site (time spent .50 hours) and were sent to the Licensee/Manager via email. No signatures were captured during today's inspection.
