Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The door to the outside play area in the infant room is difficult to open and close which appears to be due to a warped door frame.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the door is easily opened and closed.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: There were no written directions specified by the parent or care plan regarding the administration of medication for one child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure written directions are available for all medications.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 16, 2024 there were 39 children and 13 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following were discussed:
If a child has a sensitivity to a food product ensure actions to be taken by staff if the child comes into contact with the food are in writing.
