Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: An extension cord was observed across the floor posing a tripping hazard.
A water dispenser was observed plugged in and offers hot water. The Manager unplugged the water dispenser during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation: The Manager confirmed that first aid kits were not readily available to staff when care is provided off the community care facility, such as when walking or driving to schools.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that first aid kits are readily available to all employees.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated February 12, 2021 there were 13 children and 3 staff present. The Manager arrived at 11:30am. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
