Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19130 - CCLR s.57(2)(g) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (g) any notification of a parent, emergency contact or medical health officer made under section 55 [notification of illness or injury].
Observation: A log of minor incidents is maintained for each of the programs. It was noted although incidents are documented and documentation of any first aid applied is completed evidence of notification to parents was not included. The Manager advised that parents are contacted immediately by phone to inform them of any minor incidents to provide parents with the option to pick up their child.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure records are available indicating notification to parents. Manager advised she will review this practice with all staff.

Comments

At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee are noted under the inspection summary section of this report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Emergency Management
Supplies and polices are in place to respond to any unforseen emergencies that would require staff and children to evacuate to an off-site location. Manager plans to relocate the supplies to a bottom floor to permit for easier transport and acquire and additional wheeled container.
