Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice(DOLSOP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following:
Playground's chain link fence is damaged; a hole in the chain link fence need to be repaired. LO discussed some strategies to make this hole inaccessible to the children when the playground is in use.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensured that the facility's furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: LO observed that children did not wash their hands as they returned from outdoor.
Corrective Action(s): As per your current Covid-19 policy, please ensure that adequate handwashing is practiced with the children throughout the day.

Comments

On the inspection date of August 4, 2021 there were 8 children, 2 staff and a practicum student present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified and the Licensee is required to take corrective action to bring the facility into compliance and submit the written response to Licensing by below date. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the Licensee during inspection. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is attached.
This inspection report was completed off site and emailed to the Licensee; No signature is attached.

The following were discussed with the Licensee contact today:
- High Chairs: discussion was had to gradually transition toddlers out of high chairs as they show appropriate signs of readiness to move the table and chairs.
- Washroom supplies: paper towel is used and the dispenser is refilled as needed. To store any cleaning supplies out of children's reach.
- Children's photo/ digital image: to ensure that current children's photo are available to the facility staff.
- Update manager's information. This updated information to be posted within the facility.
