Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting.
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Inspection report was reviewed with Licensee contact before report was signed and printed.
Licensing would like to thank the staff and children of Yu's Montessori School for their time and assistance during today’s inspection.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #KSEY-AWDPHQ have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed staff files and noted: one staff person's valid 1st Aid certification was not on file at the facility.

Licensee contact stated that they have reviewed this staff person's valid 1st Aid certificate.

Licensing also noted that there was no proof that the Licensee had checked staff references, or that the staff ECE certificates had been validated though the Licensee contact stated this has been done. Licensing reminds the Licensee that they can make a note on the file showing the date a reference was contacted, or a date that the ECE Certificate had been validated.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the most up to date certification/ documentation is on file for all staff working at the facility.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed children's records and noted some children's did not show the start date, or only showed the month but not the year of enrollment.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure accurate start dates are on file for all children attending the facility.

Comments

During inspection Licensing noted that more equipment has been added to the construction material (blocks etc), and free art areas of the facility.

During inspection Licensing observed children engaged in Montessori activities; having a circle time with music, story and show & tell; returning to their Montessori activities & having snack when each child chose to.

During inspection Licensing observed that staff interacted with children while they were engaged in their activities as well as assisting with problem solving when necessary.
