Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A cleaning supply was found in the bathroom (unlocked bottom cupboard) accessible to the children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: 2 playpens used for nap have started to tear (holes in the mesh). LO discussed about ensuring that there is no tears or rips in the mesh or vinyl/cloth that covers the playpen.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all furniture, equipment and fixtures of the facility are clean and in good repair.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 3 staff files were reviewed; 1 staff's CRC was expired.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all staff files are complete.

Summary of Inspection
At today’s inspection there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to provide a written response by below date, including how areas found to be in non-compliance are addressed. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. This report was reviewed with the Manager onsite and a copy was provided via email.
LO observed and discussed the following with Manager on site:
- Health and Illness policy
- Napping space & equipment incl. cleaning and disinfecting practice
- To develop a system to inspect and monitor emergency supplies in stock
