Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed unsecured shelves over 5ft tall in the children’s main activity area; posing a risk of falling in the event of an earthquake

Comments

All care categories were discussed during the inspection; however, no children were in care at the time of the inspection. When Licensing visited the program again on December 18, 2023; Licensing did not enter the facility as no children were in care. Licensing will visit the program for a follow up inspection at a later date.
The following was discussed with a staff:
- Care Plans
- Schedule E – staffing
- Emergency Supplies
During this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The information contained in the report was discussed with a staff and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
