Introduction

This was an unscheduled Routine Inspection for the purpose of inspecting the premise for compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing observed a staff personal bag located on the floor, accessible to children. The bag open, and medication was visible. This was corrected during the inspection.

STAFFING: 12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation: Two of the fire extinguishers were identified as past due for servicing.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all systems are reviewed and each employee is trained in implementing the fire drill and emergency plan.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During the inspection licensing reviewed 20 children's files, of those, one file did not contain the medical insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain for each child, a record showing the medical service plan number.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: No care plan available for a child requiring extra support. The manager said they were in the process of developing a care plan, however, the child has been in care since last year, and does require specified resources and guidance plans.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to develop a care plan for each child who requires one.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 22 children, 6 staff, a ECE student and the manager on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
The following was discussed
Discussed the potential use of the side yard in addition to the licensed outdoor space. Licensing will provide the amendment form and the manager will submit an amendment request form to include the additional space, with the site plan and measurements to licensing.
