Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
- electrical cords in three nap rooms that were not secured and accessible to children, posing a risk of potential entanglement
- a free-standing bookshelf in the preschool that is not secured and could pose a hazard if it were to fall
Corrective Action(s): Staff removed any unsecured cords from within children's reach during the inspection.
Ensure that a healthy and safe environmentn is provided at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: A wall in the group 30 months to school age program where chairs are often stacked has many chipped areas exposing the drywall which is porous and not able to be easily cleaned.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the community care facility is in good repair, clean and easy to be cleaned.

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager.
