Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).
All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following in the play space:
- A dangling cord for the stereo in the free play area accessible to children - choking/strangulation concerns. This is a repeat contravention but was corrected at inspection.
- Black garbage bags under the sink, accessible to the children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment for children during care hours

STAFFING: 12460 - CCLR s.60(3)(b) - A licensee must keep (b) in any other case, all criminal record check results and character references for the entire time that the subject of the criminal record check or character reference is ordinarily present on the premises.
Observation: On review of all 3 staff records, Licensing observed that 2 staff did not have a current cleared criminal record check on site.
These staff should not be working with children until a current clearance is in place.
In discussion, staff stated that the checks have been done and are ready for printing yet haven't been added to the staff files as yet.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all staff files are kept current

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection dated February 4th 2019, there were 20 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified
A written compliance plan is required to address the contraventions by February 11th 2019
Licensing will review and monitor the health and safety plan once received.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program - facility are in compliance
· Temporary Placements
· Active Supervision
