Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting.
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that one high chair had torn vinyl exposing the foam padding which cannot be properly cleaned and sanitized.

Licensee stated they will cover this area with plastic which can then be properly cleaned and sanitized.
Corrective Action(s): Repair or replace high chair to ensure that it can be properly cleaned and sanitized.

Comments

During inspection Licensing revewed staff documentation and noted that there is no proof that their references have been checked, and their ECE certification had been validated, on file. Manager stated that they have done this & will put notes on their staff files to indicate the references have been checked & their ECE certificates have been validated.

Upon arrival children were engaged in free play & then got ready to play outside. Manager stated that they had already been outside this morning & the children were enjoying the sunshine.

During inspection children were ouside: exploring the garden; pushing cars; riding on a teeter totter; singing songs; building with blocks; etc.

Licensing observed examples of child directed art on display in the facility.

During inspection Licensing observed staff interacting with children while they were egaged in activities; staff were at child's level discussing what children were seeing & doing and assisting ieith problem solving when necessary.
