Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing reviewed six staff files. One file did not have criminal record check in place. This staff is on site today.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff files are complete, including criminal record check. This staff must not work alone. Please provide a health and safety plan to licensing.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Annual evaculation drill not recorded on file. Manager said that drill was practiced
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure evaculation drill record is completed.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 3 children and 2 staff present and the manager arrived during the inspection.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

The Licensee is required to address the contraventions to bring the facility back into compliance and provide a written response to Licensing by the date below.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
- Valid CRC/s are available and reviewed expiry dates.
- Active Play promotion and outdoor play
- Hygiene and sanitization practices and communicable disease plan
- Emergency evacuation plan
- Bedding/blanket sanitizing system
- storage of equipment when not in use
- active supervising of children during nap time
safe fidge temperture checking system
- Licensing Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)
