Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a warm kettle plugged into the wall on a shelf within reach of children in care, which could cause harm to children if pulled down.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times for children in care.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: Licensing reviewed facility policies and procedures and noted that the active play and screen time policies continue to not be a part of the policy manual.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislative required policies are available at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Licensing reviewed daily attendance records and noted that one arrival time was not recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that daily attendance records contain all required information at all times.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 22, 2019, there were 13 children in care and 2 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Please provide written response to licensing by October 29, 2019 indicating how all coded violations have been suitably addressed.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Active play and screen time policies were discussed.
