Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing
Physical Facility
Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided to the facility.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

On site today was the Manager and one other ECE teacher.
Staff to child ratio was in compliance with regulations
Programming is posted and available for parent review on notice boards in the classroom. Children have daily outdoor play.
Licensing observed the children in free play with a variety of available activities. Children took part in a group circle which was very interactive and involved physical literacy.

Discussions with the Manager/Staff:-
- Licensing reviewed the evacuation procedure with the Staff and confirmed no use of the higher slide outdoors.
- Licensing provided information regarding Appetite to Play (see website address above) and provided the immunization poster as a resource.
- Licensing recommends:
Indicating in the minor incident log book when parents have been notified of any incident;
Removing any products in the First Aid kit which has a DIN # (drug identification number) unless parental permission to use is sought.
A staff exemption is currently in place until March 31st 2017. Staff member has still not received renewed ECE Assistant certification from the Registry and further follow up by the staff may be required.
Licensing notes that there are always 2 staff on site, one with First Aid training.

Licensing observed Staff engaged with children during activities. Staff were able to effectively meet individual needs and appropriate language was used during communication.
