Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Electrical cords were observed hanging in the room accessible to children that poses a choking hazard.
Corrective Action(s): (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Ensure to provide safe environment at all times.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Last fire drill recorded on the log sheet was conducted in October 2022. The manager included that she has conducted the fire drills last two months and had not recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fire drills are practiced on monthly basis and the record is maintained.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Licensee could not demonstrate annual review of the emergency plan.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure there is a system in place to implement a review of the emergency plan annually.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually
Corrective Action(s): Ensure there is a system in place to service the fire extinguisher annually.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: Licensing observed that the menu or information on the food and drink given to children is not provided to the parents.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that information on food and drinks given to children is provided to the parents.

Comments

At this inspection dated February 22, 2023 there were 13 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection, above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
