Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Written directions obtained by the staff regarding the adminstration of medication for a child in care were unclear.
Corrective Action(s): The manager confirmed that she will obtain permission to adminster medication including clear directions prior to the child returning.

Upon arrival, two staff and two children were on site. During this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The following was discussed:
- CCLR Schedule E
- Care Plans
- First Aid
The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
