Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing noted that a small portion of the outdoor play ground fencing was broken, there were nails protruding from a few pieces of wood. The Manager removed the broken pieces of wood during inspection and stated that there are plans to replace that portion of fence in the near future. The Manager also stated that a discussion will be had with staff and a playground check will be conducted prior to children entering the playground.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During inspection licensing noted that the emergency food and water supplies were expired. Manager was not aware of the expiry and has stated that the supplies will be replaced and replenished as soon as possible.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a system is in place to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 17, 2022 there were 26 children, 3 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

- Continuing to follow Covid-19 safety procedures.
- Maintaining Child/staff ratio and group size
- Dr's name and phone number may be a walk in clinic
- Items with a DIN # requires parent's written permission
- Switching around carpets and possibly replacing them
