Introduction

An unscheduled first routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14020 - CCLR s.34(2)(a) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: At the time of this inspection there were 3 children under 24 months present. As per Schedule E of the Child Care Licensing Regulation 2 children under 24 months are permitted where there is no child under 12 months. Licensing discussed the temporary placement process.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee to submit a request for temporary placement.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 25, 2020 there were 4 children and 1 staff (Licensee\Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified or no contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
Emergency Planning
Licensing reviewed Section 22 of the Child Care Licensing Regulation. As discussed, any items stored on higher shelving that may pose potential for injury should be relocated to minimize risk. Emergency supplies should be kept accessible so the supplies can be easily transported in the event of an emergency requiring evacution - e.g. earthquake. The emergency should be practiced at least once each year.
