Introduction

A scheduled inspection was completed as a follow up inspection to routine #CLAN-BTYVSW

Contraventions

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility:

-A toilet lid, covering the inside workings of the toilet, was broken. This was held together by sticky shelf liner paper. In discussion with the Manager she stated the lid broke this week and the facility is awaiting a replacement piece.
-A small table had marks in it that may harbour bacteria. This was not corrected by the date listed on the routine inspection and therefore is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BTYVSW.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the furniture is easy to clean and free from hazards.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility:

- a cupboard in one of the classrooms was not locked and bleach was present and accessible. This was not corrected by the date listed on the routine inspection and therefore is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BTYVSW.
- Rust was observed on two toilet fixtures in the washroom. This could present a possible health hazard. In discussion with the Manager she stated that a maintenance person replaced the wrong piece on the toilet. Recommendations were made to the Manager. This was not corrected by the date listed on the routine inspection and therefore is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BTYVSW.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Seven children's records were reviewed. Two children's records were missing an emergency contact other than a parent. This was not corrected by the date listed on the routine inspection and therefore is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BTYVSW.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete.

Comments

During the inspection there were 54 children, 14 teachers and 1 Manager was present. The above noted contraventions were observed at the inspection. Please send a written response to Licensing by February 24, 2021 identifying how you have corrected the above noted contraventions.

This report was reviewed with the Manager at the inspection. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the report was written at the Burnaby Health protection office. A time of .5 hours is included in this report. A copy of this inspection was sent to the Manager.
