Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: During inspection the water in the bathroom where children wash hands was measured at 62 degrees celsius. The Manager has expressed that it will be monitored and adjusted to ensure the safety of children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degrees celsius.

Comments

At the inspection dated November 25, 2021 there were 4 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

- Continuing to follow Covid-19 safety procedures.
- Accessible location for emergency supplies.
- Manager discussed updating the fire drill meeting location.
- Safe storage for medication.
- Notifying families and Licensing of facility closures.
- Reportable incident reporting.
