Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16030 - CCLR s.53(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this.
Observation: Medication was accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that medication is not accessible to children in care.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 2 of 10 children's files reviewed did not have the not have the name of phone number of a medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each child's records has the name and phone number of a medical practitioner

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated December 15, 2021 there were 14 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Care plans
· Emergency drills
· Allergy information
