Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing
Physical Facility
Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided to the facility.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

At time of this inspection all areas inspected were found to be in compliance with the exception of the following:

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: The Criminal Record Checks (CRC) for Licensee and family member were due for renewal June 20,2017 as CRCs must be renewed every 5 years. Licensee is aware of the requirements and had renewed them through the RCMP, and not from the Criminal Record Review Program as per requirements.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee made aware of process for renewal on-line or manually and will complete as required.

Comments

At the time of this inspection the following was observed and or discussed with the Licensee:
--Children were observed engaged in free play and Licensee was observed taking part in the play activities with the children. Children have been out on field trips to community parks and to nearby lakes,water parks.and movies.
--Printed resources provided included the following: Child Care Licensing Update, Director of Licensing Standard of Practice for Active Play, Fact Sheet regarding the Standard of Practice, Active Play--Simple Games and Activity Ideas, Physical Literacy Info, and Guiding Children's behavior. Discussion took place regarding Legislative changes and requirements for new policies for Active Play and Screen Use. Licensee already provides a lot of opportunity for outdoor play in all weather.
--Reviewed Reportable Incident and appropriate response was provided and timely notification to Licensing was provided.
