Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A current criminal record check is not available for one staff person.
Corrective Action(s): The manager said a new criminal record check has been applied for but not received.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 30, 2023 there were 34 children and nine staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager.
The following were discussed:
· Ensuring resilient surfacing meets the requirements stated in Safe Play Spaces.
· Ensuring a back up system is in place in case electronic time in/out systems fail.
· Visit the CCFL website at www.fraserhealth.ca/childcare for additional resources and links to the Legislation (CCALA and CCLR).
